We are on our own! Efforts and incentives to advance improvements in healthcare and wellness are fragmented and fail to consistently work in the best interests of the people. There is little expectation that the issues confronting us will be resolved by national or state initiatives and even less expectation that local efforts to find solutions will be supported financially by national or state resources. It appears that, despite all the studies, investigations, task forces, obvious national and state initiatives, promises and mandates, that we are on our own. It is just as obvious that the Charleston region is very unique in that there is an abundance of resources- the best hospitals, doctors, nurses, public health officials, school officials, non-profit leadership, educators, business leaders and employees than in any region in the country. Their collaborative ingenuity, intelligence and passion will help forge our success.
